I just returned from a fiber and fun filled weekend at SAFF. I got to spend the whole weekend with my mom and see (and pet, of course) all the fiber that we could get our hands on! Have you ever hugged a llama? Or gotten nuzzled by one? Or had one smell your hair? (yes, there was a llama there that wanted to smell everyone's hair!) Here's my mom and I snuggling with a very sweet llama:
It turns out the farm is only about an hour from my home-and they do llama hikes at a vineyard. The llama carries the tablecloth, picnic basket and wine and you hike to a picnic. We're going to have to plan a day and take the llama hike.
Here is a very cute, 6 week old baby alpaca:
I wanted to take him home, but I really like being married. . . :) We came out with 3 lovely fleeces-Mom picked out an off-white shetland fleece that took first place in the fleece show, I have a lovely gray corriedale that came in third, and we are splitting a small jacob (which wasn't in the fleece show). So, I've got lots of fleece washing to do. . . And, of course I had to support other artists, so here is my loot:
Notice my guard alpaca hiding behind the polwarth! I even found a spindle that I like! I have never been able to make friends with the spindle before, but when I picked up this trindle, it just clicked. It's the first spindle where I have been able to move beyond "park and draft." So, of course I had to have it. . .
